On Tuesday July 14th, developers from the NY Metropolitan area joined us at 3 Times Square for our first Developer Day in the North American region. This half-day event was an opportunity for developers to network and expand their community while they learned coding tips from our experts and experienced demos in our innovation booths. Some attendees were also lucky enough to win prizes that enable and support their own personal experiments.

We collected valuable feedback on what would make our online Developer portal more useful to you so we’re currently working to implement some of your suggestions.

Here are a few statistics gathered from our survey on the day:

- 100% of respondents told us they found our presented topics relevant and interesting with 80% finding the amount of their detail to be “just right”.

- 75% of respondents are most interested in learning Data Science and Machine Learning when it comes to emerging technologies.

- 30% of respondents don’t think they’ll be using Microsoft Excel in 5-10 years.

We’d like to thank all of those who attended as well as our partners at Intel and Data View VR for joining us.

  • Click here to see an overview from the day and to hear from the community.
  • What does “easy to use” mean to you?  Watch this video to see what our clients, partners, and colleagues had to say.
  • Click here to visit the photo library
  • Click here to view our channel of tutorials

We’re passionate about bringing our developers together and growing our community, so don’t forget to check the portal homepage for future events in this series. We also encourage you to share this with your colleagues in other regions!

New Elektron Test Data Available 18 Dec 2017 05:33 CST

We are now providing Elektron Realtime data for you to test our Elektron APIs without the need to access infrastructure. This is done by using a data replay tool to easily playback a pre-recorded capture of real-time markets - allowing you to interact with the API in a psuedo-live environment. We also have an article explaining how these tools are used.

The Elektron test data provided on this page may be used in conjunction with a data replay tool to quickly run up and try the APIs within the Elektron SDK.

The data replay tool, called sink_driven_src, is part of a package of tools called "infra tools" which may be downloaded from the developer portal here. The packaged recorded data files below include a readme with step-by-step instructions detailing how the test data may be played back with sink_driven_src such that it behaves like a data feed. You may then configure and connect the example consumer applications within the Elektron SDK to sink_driven_src and consume the pre-recorded data. Whilst a data replay tool cannot fully simulate the functionality of a real data feed product, the capability provided here will enable you get started on your journey to learn the Elektron APIs.

To learn more about our Elektron consolidated data feed, please take a look at the information here and follow the links for further details.

To learn more about the tools used to record and play back the data, please see the article Quick start guide to recording and playback of Elektron Data

Improved App Studio AuthService 15 Sep 2016 03:09 CDT

Announcing the new App Studio AuthService for improved single sign-on between App Studio apps and the Eikon Platform

We are happy to announce our new single-sign on service, App Studio AuthService2.

AuthService2 has many benefits over the previous AuthService:

    • More closely follows SAML2 standards
      • SAML2 compliant response signature and format
      • Improved redirect workflow
      • SAML2 metadata
      • Changed content of "Issuer field"
      • Enhanced user information
        • Get user status: "Trial" vs full "Subscription"

These improvements and enhancements will simplify the single-sign on integration, work better "out of the box" with third party tools, and increase the value single-sign on with the Eikon platform.

We will continue support for the legacy AuthService for the foreseeable future, but do encourage all developers to upgrade when possible.

Turning the renminbi (RMB) into a truly global currency is at the forefront of China’s ambitions. As a sign of its progress, the RMB is now being benchmarked against China’s most important trade partner currencies.

China’s story of unprecedented growth has evolved in the past year into the creation of a new normal, where the need for rebalancing demands that a more sustainable level of growth is embraced.

An economic slowdown is indeed a reality, but the strides that China has made to develop its economy over the past two decades — and the recent milestones it has reached — should not be forgotten amid the current volatility.

In particular, the world’s second largest economy is showing no signs of looking back in its quest to drive the internationalization of the renminbi.

And as the recent creation of indices measuring RMB’s performance against a basket of global currencies demonstrates, the world is taking notice.

Predicting the weather is a major challenge for power producers and traders as they attempt to manage risk. Is there a way to forecast with confidence and gain a competitive edge?

Finding ways to manage often unpredictable weather patterns has become more important than ever as conventional electricity production increasingly makes way for renewable energy. But wind and solar power cannot be stored directly, which means that whenever the weather changes the supply of power changes, creating volatility in the market price of power. More than a billion euros change hands every day in Europe as producers and traders attempt to manage their power market risk exposure, with the weather being one of the biggest factors.

At the beginning of the fourth quarter, the StarMine research team at Thomson Reuters perused corporate earnings forecasts in search of companies that it believed would be most likely to report a big surprise (positive or negative) when they announced their results. All the numbers are in and we find that StarMine was right in eight out of the 10 picks – just above its historical average.

Using StarMine SmartEstimate® and Predicted Surprise data, we highlighted 10 companies that we believed had a high probability of recording an earnings surprise in the first quarter — five likely to beat the analysts’ consensus estimate and another five  likely to fall short.

In the case of these ten selections – eight went in the direction of the prediction and two went in the opposite direction. Of those two, one company, Barrick Gold came in at the consensus, but we do not give ourselves credit for that. Stay tuned for our picks for the first quarter of 2016.

The CalaisModel Abstraction Layer provides a client API that maps RDF/XML entities to Java objects. The package includes the CalaisModelCreator, a tool used to automatically generate an instance of the CalaisModel, populated with your data. This instance of the CalaisModel enables reading the output RDF without writing any logic to process XML elements and without any specific knowledge of the underlying data structure.

The Abstraction Layer may be used with all versions of Open Calais.
